I ran a marathon (miles wise anyway) and now I’m dying – any help for the recovering body?

I’ve wondered for awhile how much I could push myself. I’m not sure that I found the end, but I sure did find an upper bound.

On Saturday I played football for about an hour. I ran 1.5 miles in wind-sprints. Then I played a tag game with the kids for about 40 minutes that afternoon. And in the evening we ended up watching two movies.

I had initially decided to just get on the elliptical for the fist movie. The Veggie Tale movie was only 1.5 hours long. But when that was over everyone wanted to watch Iron man too. So I just kept going. 3 hours and 40 minutes later I completed a 22 miles. Add to that what I ran earlier in the day and I was pushing 30 total miles.

I felt good at the time, exhausted, but good.

Sunday – I could barely move and today – it is a little better.

Someone suggested a ginger (the spice) bath. I’m not sure if I’m going to try that or not, but if anyone else has suggestions I’m willing to try just about anything now:) I am one sore puppy.

But I now know I can push my body a lot farther than I imagined before. In a few more weeks I may try a two movie marathon again with 2 full length movies. That would put me over 4 hours and maybe close to 5.

And I think that I will try one huge one while watching the Lord of the Rings series when I’ve reached my target weight.

I don’t think that I could do it without the movies going. I need the distraction I think to keep going. But at least I am going.

Frankly, I just don't know how you exercise for that length of time – and I live here. I can see taking really long walks for several hours, because outside you are always looking at lots of different things, but the basement just isn't very interesting, even with a movie on. The Lord of the Rings marathon should be interesting. :-)

Outside – if I have good company that i can talk to – is fun as well or if
I'm in the mountains. But just in the city is kind of boring for me. Even
where we live which is a residential zone in the middle of farm land it not
that great for keeping my attention for that long. I've seen all the homes
so many times now that they really do not hold any interest.

I've tried books on tape while I'm working out too, but I so not retain
anything that way. So it is kind of interesting to listen while running, but
not really that great for learning. I guess I'm a visual learner.

From a weight loss perspective I'm not sure that marathons are the way I
want to go. But I do like seeing how far I can push my body.

Thanks for the encouragement and support

Matt I have 2 words for you….IONIX SUPREME. I am a distance runner and this stuff saves my life. Recovery is a breeze!!! Half marathons, Marathons, 5k 10K you name it. Before I was sore even after a 5k. 3.1 miles. Now its almost like I get to cheat because I don't have the dreaded next day pain. 1 oz of this a day and 2 oz on game day and you will be a whole new runner. By the way I am extremely proud of you for going the extra mile or should I say the extra 30 miles. You inspire me!

Aside from being quite sore on Sunday and Monday (so far) I was quite please
with the effort. I'm not sure that I will do that on a regular basis. But
once every few months I may test myself in a huge marathon event just to see
what I am capable of. I am always amazed at the power of the human spirit.
We are much stronger than we think we are and when properly motivated there
is very very little that we cannot do.

Thanks for the suggestion and encouragement. I'll give that a try and I'll
keep it up.

Try chocolate milk.within an hour after you finish exercising. Its the right balance of carbs and protein that your body needs after exercise to help you recover faster. After 22 miles on an eliptical? That's crazy! You just need to eat really well after something like that. Also a little ibuprophen, rest, massage and stretching will go a long way.

Yuk! Chocolate.

I'll just have to settle for good food, rest, drugs and a massage! I like
that last one. I'll see if I can get my 6 month pregnant wife to return the
message favor:)

Thanks for the suggestions – even if they included chocolate.

Run of Marathon

Really I know that exercise good for health now this time, and I also walks for long time on the way because my neighbors always looks at lots of different things. So I m also interesting Rings of Marathon and all people should be take interest in Ring Marathon.

Stearner, what a refreshing marathon you had take. I would like to say that ginger bath is too good after that. But I think too much exercise would have great stretching of body. How long you can stretch depends upon your body strength and your willpower.

The article very interesting, its about exercise that he spend for a long time.Playing a game and at the same time decided to watch a movie. How he have done it on one day and needs a help for recovering a body.
